Lower Burrell Recycling Day — only for typical household items — is set for April 27.

The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. behind city hall at 2800 Bethel St.

Residents can drop off a number of recyclable items including: Motor oil, automatic transmission fluid, kerosene, hot water tanks, stoves, washers, dryers, lawn mowers (must be drained), car batteries using lead/acid, scrap metal and more.

Some Freon-containing items will be accepted for a charge including refrigerators ($15 to $25), window air conditioners and humidifiers ($15), and microwaves ($10).

Used tires will be accepted for $3. Large truck/tractor tires will not be accepted. Tires with caked-on mud will cost more to dispose of: $5.

Latex only paint will be accepted at $2 per gallon or smaller, and $4 for larger containers.

For details, call 724-335-9875, ext. 208.

2 other events set later

There’s a recycling event for electronic and household hazardous materials on May 4 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Residents must pre-register for that event at www.ecsr.net or call 866-815-0016. For more information, visit the city’s website.

Yet another recycling day is planned for Nov. 2, dubbed “Too Toxic to Trash” for more toxic items such as TVs, monitors, electronics, refrigerators that contain Freon, oil-based paint, household hazardous waste, batteries, pesticides, chemicals, oils, flammables and more.
