'Todo Tango' coming to Tarentum's Central Presbyterian Church
Do the tango with mom on Sunday.
“Todo Tango,” a performance of tango dance music and songs featuring Warren Davidson on violin, Tom Roberts at the piano and mezzo-soprano Raquel Winnica Young is happening at 4 p.m. on Mother’s Day at Central Presbyterian Church in Tarentum.
It’s the last concert for this fifth season.
“We’re excited to continue to host the concert series at Central Church,” said Dave Rankin of Harrison, a lifelong member of the church, who is handling publicity for the concert. “Bringing quality fine arts programming to our local community, and helping to make Tarentum a destination for concerts like this is important to us. They help provide renewal to individuals, and the community.”
This series is a form of outreach, providing quality arts programming in a beautiful setting for people to enjoy, without making the trip into the city, said Rankin.
According to dancefacts.net, tango music is a distinctive style of music that originated in late 18th and early 19th centuries among the European immigrant and African slave populations of Argentina during the development of modern tango dance. It is very rare to find tango music that consists only of beats, the website said.
“This style of music is cool because it’s not something you hear all the time,” said Davidson. “We refer to this concert as the ‘golden age of tango.”
This will be the first time all three members of the trio will play together. They will only have had a few rehearsals before show time. The event is about an hour and a half in length.
“Performing in this church setting is fun because the audience is closer and musicians feed off of that intimate atmosphere,” said Davidson, organizer of the concert series. It’s also an opportunity for guests to experience live music versus what they might hear on the radio or a CD or through their smart phone.
“When music is performed live, it is happening right in front of you,” said Davidson. “You don’t know what is happening next. It is very much alive.”
A goodwill offering will be received. Refreshments will follow the concert.
