Trooper says he watched drunken Armstrong County man fall asleep in car wash
State police said an Armstrong County man was drunk when fell asleep at a Buffalo Township car wash — with a trooper waiting in line behind him.
A criminal complaint filed against Larry Wayne Hill, 53, of Cowanshannock, said he pulled into the Get-Go along Route 356 around 3 p.m. March 30.
A trooper in uniform had just pumped gas into his marked police vehicle and was preparing to get in line for a car wash when he said Hill pulled into the station and struck a tire guide as he entered the car wash lane, according to the complaint.
The trooper said he pulled in behind Hill and waited as Hill took an “inordinate amount of time to select the car wash and pay for it,” the complaint said.
The trooper said he then saw Hill fall asleep while putting money into the car-washing machine.
When the trooper walked up to Hill to ask if he was OK, the man woke up and appeared to be startled, the complaint said.
The complaint said Hill’s eyes were glassy and bloodshot and he had a strong odor of alcohol.
“When I asked him to put the car in park and step out of the car, he began to laugh at me,” the trooper wrote in the complaint.
The trooper said Hill admitted that he had been drinking.
Hill is accused of two charges of drunken driving. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 1.
