A Tarentum man accused of robbing a New Kensington bank in December has been arrested, the Westmoreland County District Attorney’s Office announced Friday.

The U.S. Marshals Task Force arrested Anthony Burda, 37. He was taken into custody in the Central Pennsylvania region of Cambria and Blair counties, said Melanie Jones, spokeswoman for District Attorney Nicole Ziccarelli.

No details on the circumstances of his arrest were provided. A spokesman for the U.S. Marshals Service was not immediately able to comment on the arrest.

Burda is accused of robbing the First National Bank on Tarentum Bridge Road on Dec. 30. It happened just before the bank, located in front of Riverview Plaza, closed at 5 p.m.

Burda was identified as the suspect in January. A $1,000 reward through the U.S. Marshals Service was offered in March; Jones did not know whether it will be claimed.

Investigators said Burda demanded money from the tellers. They said Burda allegedly threatened to shoot the employees if they did not comply, but he did not show a gun.

Authorities said Burda, who acted alone, got away with an undetermined amount of money.

Burda is charged with robbery, terroristic threats and theft. He was arraigned Friday evening and being held in the Westmoreland County Jail on $100,000 bail, according to court records.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 4 before New Kensington District Judge Frank J. Pallone Jr.
