The opening ceremony of the 125th U.S. Open wasn’t just about golf.
Notable figures in the USGA, local government and military gathered at the tournament’s Fan Central for an opening ceremony and flag raising.
Special guests, including USGA president Fred Perpall; Allegheny County Executive Sara Innamorato; Director of U.S. Army Artificial Intelligence Center, Col. Isaac Faber; Oakmont Mayor Sophia Facaros; National Flag Foundation board member and former Pittsburgh Steeler, John Banaszak; and NFF chairman Romel Nicholas, saluted Oakmont, the tournament’s host community, and conducted a flag raising ceremony in honor of Flag Day and the Army’s 250th birthday.
Pittsburgh-based singer Jeff Jimerson performed the national anthem for the event. Honor Guard and American Legion members of the 171st Refueling Wing also attended the ceremony.
