Upper Burrell supervisors Wednesday gave the green light to the township’s 2024 budget, which includes no tax increase for residents.

The budget totals $1.25 million. The tax rate will remain at 12 mills.

“Everything balanced out. Everything looks good,” said Ross Walker, supervisors chairman.

A homeowner with a property assessed at $22,000 would pay $264 in 2024 for township real estate property taxes.

About $415,000 in the budget is allotted for police and public safety. Other expenditures include a new tractor for road maintenance and roughly $119,000 toward the township’s highways and streets department.

Upper Burrell expects $52,000 in revenue from Act 13 impact fees, which come from Marcellus shale gas operations. There are four well pads operating in the township. Construction on a fifth is expected to begin in October.

The budget allocates $92,000 for public safety and fire, which includes a $20,000 contribution to the township’s volunteer fire department.

Walker said he would like to look at increasing the donation to the fire company for the 2025 budget.

“They certainly deserve it,” he said.
