An Upper Burrell man was killed in a motorcycle crash Friday not far from his home, according to the Westmoreland County coroner.

William A. Montgomery, 59, was traveling on a Harley-Davidson motorcycle at 4 p.m. on Seventh Street Road, also known as Route 780, near Upper Drennen Road when authorities said he crashed. He was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy was scheduled Sunday.

Montgomery’s cause and manner of death is pending autopsy and toxicology results. The road was closed for a time while township police investigated.

Hart Funeral Home in Murrysville is handling arrangements. Montgomery ran a successful contracting business and worked on many homes around the area for the past 40 years, according to his obituary. He enjoyed the outdoors and classic cars. Visitation is set for Thursday at the funeral home.
