Upper Burrell planners are recommending approval for a proposed building addition at the Alcoa Technical Center.

The township’s planning commission issued the recommendation at its meeting Tuesday.

According to township documents, Alcoa Technical Center intends to add the approximately 5,100-square-foot building for equipment storage at the research complex at 859 White Cloud Road.

According to the project narrative from engineers at Civil and Environmental Consultants Inc., the project includes the addition as well as “underground electric service lines and surface equipment, and areas of pavement restoration.”

“The improvements will not result in an increase in impervious area. The proposed building will be installed over existing impervious area and all other disturbed areas will be returned to existing conditions,” it continued.

The project would disturb about 14,800 square feet of earth, the application said. The property is zoned for industrial use.

Commission Chairman Tom O’Brien said the engineers had no issue with the request.

The item advances to the board of supervisors for its consideration. The next supervisors meeting is Aug. 2.
