Vandergrift Council has awarded a $147,000 contract to A. Folino Construction of Oakmont for this summer’s paving program.

The amount allocated for paving by Westmoreland County is $137,000. Vandergrift officials had thought that the county’s allotment would be enough to pay the whole cost, but the price of asphalt has jumped due to the increase in oil prices.

“The price of petroleum has gone through the roof,” said council Vice President Thomas Holmes.

Should the borough not be able to acquire the additional $10,000 needed, the paving list would need to be adjusted.

On this year’s paving program is:

• Pennsylvania Avenue, from LaBellvue Road to just past Delaware Avenue;

• Delaware Avenue, to the northern end of Indiana Avenue, and from near Virginia Avenue to its northern end’s sharp bend;

• 13th Street, from Custer Avenue (Route 56) to 13th, and from 13th to Washington;

• 11th Street, from Columbia Avenue to Fifth Street;

• Fifth Street, from Sherman Avenue to 11th Street;

• 28th Street, to Lowell Street;

• 29th Street, from Howell Street to Irving Street;

• Bryant Street, from near Wallace Street to Cooper Street.
