A Tuesday morning house fire in Vandergrift was arson, state police Tpr. Seth Hellman said Wednesday.
The intentionally set blaze caused about $3,500 in damage, mostly to flooring to a vacant house at at 924 Holland St. , Vandergrift fire Chief Steve Potoka said.
There were no injuries.
Patrolman Willie Weber said a woman on her way home stopped his car along Walnut Street to say she saw smoke.
Weber immediately went to the house. He saw smoke coming from the eaves and called county 911 at 1:32 a.m., police Chief Joseph Caporali said.
A Westmoreland County 911 supervisor said about 7 fire units were sent to the house. Most were able to leave soon after.
Potoka said the fire was put out in about 20 minutes. Then the house was checked for hot-spots.
The last units were Vandergrift firefighters. They left at about 4:45 a.m. after a deputy state fire marshal investigated.
Weber said evidence has been sent to a lab.
