Vandergrift police on Monday charged Rebecca Lynn Hubert, seen here in 2023, with 10 felony offenses including theft, receiving stolen property, access device fraud and forgery.

Vandergrift police filed felony charges against a woman accused of stealing more than $13,700 from a man she was living with and purportedly “helping.”

Rebecca Lynn Hubert, 57, faces 10 felony charges that include forgery, theft, receiving stolen property and access device fraud.

Police filed charges Monday in District Judge Cheryl Peck Yakopec’s office. Police say Hubert is homeless. A phone number listed for Hubert was disconnected.

According to a criminal complaint filed in the case, a man walked into the Vandergrift police station on June 10 to report fraud. He provided bank transaction statements and highlighted three of them, made on May 12, June 2 and June 5, that totaled $13,758.

The man told police he does not make online transactions, nor did he make those transactions, the complaint said.

He said that Hubert had access to his bank information. He told police that Hubert lived with him previously and was to be “helping” him, police said.

The man told police that he and the bank manager found out that Hubert was spending the money at Walmart for groceries and having them delivered to her current residence, the complaint said. Walmart customer service told them there were about $3,000 in groceries sitting in the online cart and that the phone number listed was a number for Hubert.

On July 9, Vandergrift police and Westmoreland County detectives responded to a home address on Evergreen Road in Gilpin to try to make contact with Hubert, but the home was vacant, the complaint said.

On July 25, police received the man’s credit card statements that show Hubert appeared to be completing transactions on the cards at places such as Walmart, Tractor Supply and Dollar General without the man knowing, the complaint said.

The statements also showed that Hubert was using a credit card in South Carolina. The man told police Hubert told him that she was going to South Carolina to sell a house, according to the complaint.

Police found that Hubert also had warrants out from Westmoreland County probation since November.

In April 2024 as part of a previous case, Hubert pleaded guilty to charges of theft and receiving stolen property as part of a plea deal.

In that case, Hubert was ordered to serve five years probation for her role in the theft of more than $30,000 from a roommate over a two-year span.
