Vandergrift police say a Michigan man they found asleep behind the wheel after he wrecked into a parked vehicle had to be Tasered twice when he resisted arrest and ran from officers.

Stanley Francis Molette, 35, of Farmington Hills was charged with two felony counts of aggravated assault and counts of simple assault, resisting arrest, driving under the influence, driving with a suspended license and causing an accident involving a vehicle.

Molette was being detained in the Westmoreland County jail after a judge denied bail during Molette’sarraignment to ensure he appears for a preliminary hearing before District Judge Cheryl Peck Yakopec on Tuesday, Oct. 25, court records show.

According to Molette’s arrest papers, an officer dispatched to the 300 block of Longfellow Street shortly before 3 p.m. Sunday for a report of an accident found a Nissan Juke that crashed into the rear of a Ford Escape.

According to a criminal complaint filed in the case, the Nissan’s doors were locked, the windows were rolled up and music was blaring from the stereo while the driver was asleep at the wheel.

The vehicle’s motor also was running and the transmission was still in drive, police said.

When noise from the officers yelling and pounding on the window finally woke the driver, police said, he refused commands to put the vehicle in park. Instead, he shifted into reverse, nearly striking a police cruiser, the complaint said.

The driver then put the SUV into drive and began rolling forward, according to the complaint. At the same time, an officer was able to jump into the front seat and take control of the car, police said.

Molette struggled with two officers who tried to pull him out of the car and repeatedly reached for the vehicle’s gear shift, the complaint said.

After refusing multiple orders to stop resisting, an officer deployed a Taser shot to Molette’s chest, which caused him to roll out of the vehicle, the complaint said.

Molette received a second shock from the Taser after he got up and took off running, police said.

Police said he was able to run another block or so after the second Taser hit before falling to the ground and being taken into custody.
