The Vandergrift Public Library won a free Science in the Summer program from GlaxoSmithKline for children to be enrolled in a four-day program at the library taught by educators from the Carnegie Science Center.
The four-day program, running during the week of June 10-13, will be open to all children entering grades 2 through 6 in the fall, according to Vanessa Groholski, director of the Vandergrift Public Library.
Students will learn about the human body and digestion, circulation, mapping the brain bio-blueprint DNA and other interesting details. Each day will offer lessons filled with hands-on activities exploring the biology of different systems of the body.
Registration opens Wednesday, May 1.
Although the program is free, space is limited to 20 children per session. Registration will be for all four days of the program. If a child cannot commit to the full four days, their spot will be forfeited.
An adult is required to stay on-site for the daily, hour-long program.
Children who attend the four-day science event can bring up to three guests for free admission to Carnegie Science Center on Sunday, Aug. 25 for a celebratory event.
