Police arrested a Verona man Wednesday after he had been on the run for nearly a year.

Jaheed Aziz, 32, had been a fugitive since August 2022 when he didn’t appear for status hearings on four different cases, according to the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office.

Judge Beth A. Lazzara issued bench warrants for all four cases, which include charges of aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of children, recklessly endangering another person, burglary and firearms violations.

Police said detectives learned this week that Aziz was in a residence at Allegheny Dwellings on Belleau Drive in Pittsburgh’s Fineview neighborhood.

When detectives arrived Wednesday, Aziz refused to come out, police said. He was found inside an apartment bedroom.

He was taken into custody without further incident and taken to the Allegheny County Jail.
