Riverview students can have a seat at the table.
Oakmont and Verona councils have opened applications for student representatives to join the conversation.
The programs allow selected Riverview students to attend monthly council voting and workshop meetings, budget sessions and community events.
Both boroughs encourage the student representatives to participate in discussions and give their perspective for needs in the communities. High school junior and senior students are eligible for the program offered in the borough where they live.
Student representatives would not be able to cast votes or participate in executive sessions.
Oakmont Council pitched the program in October 2024 and welcomed its first junior council member, Rocco Brown, in February. Verona officially launched its program in August, and is currently looking for its first student member.
An application for Verona’s program is available at veronaborough.org. Applications for Oakmont’s program are available at oakmontborough.com. Applications will be accepted through 3 p.m. Friday. Interviews will be scheduled the week of Dec. 15 after school hours on Google Meet.
