Winry Danik, 3, of Harmar takes a coffee cup from Navy veteran David Szymkowiak, of Lower Burrell, for a refill during a veterans breakfast at Guardian Angels Parish in Harrison on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2025. Winry, daughter of CCD teacher Stephanie Danik, was the unofficial hostess for the first-time breakfast for veterans of the parish and their families by the parish youth group.

Veterans, their spouses and families were honored Saturday with breakfasts in New Kensington and Harrison.

Volunteers at Aluminum City Terrace served breakfast to veterans and their spouses at the housing complex originally built to house Alcoa workers during World War II. It’s been at least eight years since the last breakfast was held.

Guests included New Kensington Mayor Tom Guzzo and state Rep. Jill Cooper. Members of the Valley High School marching band, with assistant band Director Jason Fry, performed the national anthem.

At the same time in Harrison, a first-time breakfast for veterans and their families was an effort of a new youth group at Guardian Angels Parish and its CCD students.

Among the veterans was Willie DeAngelis, 99, of Brackenridge who served in the Army during World War II.
