Buffalo Township teacher, volleyball coach charged with rape and sexual assault of minor

A Buffalo Township volleyball coach and elementary teacher is charged with rape and other sexual related crimes.

State Police said Jared Lampus, 50, of Buffalo Township was arrested Friday.

He is charged with rape, sexual assault, trafficking, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, institutional sexual assault, sexual assault by a sports officials, aggravated indecent assault, corruption of minors, unlawful contact with a minor, criminal attempt-involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and theft by deception.

Police said Lampus is a coach with the Pittsburgh Elite Volleyball Association and is a Buffalo Elementary School teacher. He is accused of having sexual contact with a victim from 2023 to this year. The victim was 16 when the alleged relationship began.

Troopers said the contact occurred in multiple jurisdictions within Butler, Armstrong and Allegheny County.

The Freeport Area School District released a statement saying it “has been notified that one of its elementary teachers is the subject of a law enforcement investigation. At this time, the School District does not have complete information regarding the circumstances involved.

“The safety of our students is the highest priority of the Freeport Area School District. Accordingly, the teacher involved has been placed on leave pending further information or the outcome of the investigation.”

Ashley Green, director of the Pittsburgh Elite Volleyball Association, released a statment in an email saying the association “has been notified that one of its former coaches is the subject of a criminal investigation unrelated to his involvement with the organization.

“The coach involved resigned from the organization effective July 30th, has not been present at the organization’s facility since that date, and will not be returning to Pitt Elite.”

Lampus is being held in the Butler County jail.

The investigation is ongoing.

Messages left with the Pittsburgh Elite Volleyball Association late Friday were not immediately returned.
