Fawn is still without a fifth supervisor after a vote to appoint someone on Tuesday ended in a tie.

Three residents — Carrie White, Shannon Rummel and Bryan Ward — applied to fill a vacancy created in June when Phillipi Smozski resigned.

But the vote ended in a draw, Secretary Pam Ponsart said.

Supervisors Jay Swager and Paula Legge voted for White. Supervisors Dan and Barb Selfridge voted for Rummel.

The board is required to have a special meeting within 15 days so the decision can be made by the township’s vacancy board, Ponsart said. The meeting will be at 6 p.m. July 22.

There are five supervisors who serve the township at-large. Smozski, who resigned for personal reasons, most recently served as vice chairman.

The person appointed at the July 22 meeting will serve the remainder of his term, through the end of the year.

Either way, there will be another race this fall. Both White and Rummel are on the ballot in the November general election, according to the Allegheny County Elections Department.

White won the primary write-in vote on the Democratic ticket, and Rummel is on the Republican ticket. They will vie for a six-year term.
