Voters in the Fox Chapel area select some new mayors but retain many other incumbents
Fox Chapel area voters have elected new mayors in Fox Chapel and Aspinwall while re-electing a number of familiar faces for council, school board and other mayoral races.
Here are the results from the Nov. 4 election, according to Allegheny County Elections Division records.
Fox Chapel Area School Board
Incumbent Amy Cooper (2,524) won reelection in Region 1. There were 31 write-in votes cast.
Incumbent Ariel Zych (3,083) won reelection in Region 2. There were 79 write-in votes cast.
Incumbents Jessica Haselkorn (2,618) and Adam Goode (2,216) each were elected to new terms in Region 3. There were no write-in votes cast. All candidates were unopposed and on both parties’ ballots.
Aspinwall
Democrat Scott Zimmerman (685) defeated Republican incumbent Joseph Noro (603) to become the borough’s next mayor. There were two write-in votes cast.
Council President Jeff Harris (952) and incumbent Lara Voytko (781), as well as former councilwoman Patti McCaffrey (835) and newcomer Andrew Corey-O’Connor (840), all Democrats, won.
They defeated Republican challengers Aggie Lotz (366), Donald Mazreku (361) and Terry Nelson Taylor (259) for four-year council seats.
There were 11 write-in votes cast.
Corey-O’Connor earned enough votes to be on both ballots on Nov. 4.
Blawnox
Democrat Mayor Anthony Gross (330) was unopposed for another four-year term. There were 17 write-in votes cast.
Council President Deborah Laskey (279), Vice President Randall Stoddard (259) and incumbents Matthew Stanczak (268) and Christine Carnevali (277), all Democrats, edged out fellow Republican councilman Mark Lombardi (128) for four four-year seats. There were 20 write-in votes cast.
There were 80 write-in votes cast for two-year seats. There were no candidates listed.
Fox Chapel
Democrat Councilman Jonathan Colton (1,362) edged out Republican challenger Robert Marsh (1,207) as the borough’s next mayor.
Mayor Alex Scott did not seek reelection. There were five write-in votes cast.
Council President Andrew Bennett (1,391), Vice President Harrison Lauer (1,763), incumbent Bradley Harrison (1,715) and newcomer Barry Schaitkin (1,559) were, in effect, unopposed for four-year terms. There were 64 write-ins cast.
Bennett was on the Republican ticket only. The other three candidates were on both ballots.
O’Hara
Democrat Councilman Richard Hughes (441) defeated Republican challenger Anthony Santucci (184) for a four-year council seat in Ward 1. There were two write-in votes cast.
Democrat Councilman George Stewart (615) ran unopposed for a four-year seat in Ward 2. There were 15 write-in votes cast.
Council Vice President Mike Hammil (511) ran unopposed for a four-year seat in Ward 3. There were nine write-in votes cast.
Democratic Councilwoman Olivia Payne (600) defeated Republican challenger Heather Elizabeth Bell (192) for a four-year seat in Ward 4.
Democratic council President Cassandra Ross Eccles (601) defeated Republican challenger Melissa Fanto (299) for a four-year seat in Ward 5.
Sharpsburg
Democrat Mayor Kayla Portis (661) ran unopposed for a four-year term. There were 41 write-in votes cast.
Council President Adrianne Laing (560), Vice President Karen Pilarski-Pastor (626) and incumbents Roman Mason (542) and Corey Egwrube Ochai (539), all Democrats, edged out Republican challenger Diana Oliver (248) in a race for four four-year seats. There were 20 write-in votes cast.
