Want to buy a funeral home? Krynicki's in Harrison up for grabs for $449,000
A former funeral home is on the market in Harrison.
The Krynicki Funeral Home at 1007 Freeport Road is listed for $449,000 by Howard Hanna Realty.
Mark Camp, 65, has lived next door to the funeral home since 1982.
He said life next to a business that deals with death and bereavement has been uneventful.
“I’m gonna miss the neighbors. They were real nice,” said Camp, who confirmed the business closed and that he sees owner Tim Krynicki show up occasionally to mow the grass on the grounds.
Camp said it was quiet residing next to the funeral home for decades.
“It was no problem. I just hope a drug rehab place or a restaurant or something does not go in. I’d like to see a doctor’s office maybe or another funeral home,” Camp said.
According to its website, the last viewing held at the funeral home took place in September.
The Krynickis declined to comment. Howard Hanna Realtor and listing agent Marissa Kesicki also declined to comment.
Third-generation Realtor and broker Christine Czekalski Spece of Czekalski Real Estate in Harrison offered insight on the future of the property and potential buyers.
Spece of Harrison has no involvement in the listing but said there’s always a need for funeral homes in communities.
“Everybody dies,” she said on the possibility of the business remaining a funeral home.
According to the listing, annual taxes on the R-1 commercially zoned property are $20,468.
The 8,000-square-foot property has 12-foot ceilings on two levels and features a built-in speaker system that can broadcast throughout the building.
There are 36 parking spaces.
The former business has funeral ties dating to 1900, when Herbert L. Warner combined his livery business with a new funeral home at Sixth Avenue and Corbet Street in Tarentum.
Eugene L. Krynicki partnered with Warner in 1950. In 1975, the business name was changed to Krynicki Funeral Home.
A new funeral home was constructed and opened in the late 1980s at the present location along Freeport Road in Harrison.
