An Armstrong County man accused of drunken driving and running from police in a separate case was arrested by a fugitive task force last week.

Carlin Mitchell Quinn, 28, of West Leechburg hid from authorities for more than a month before the arrest, police said.

“He told police he was on his way to Canada,” Leechburg police Chief Jason Schaeffer said.

Court records show Quinn was initially arrested April 5 in Vandergrift for alleged drunken driving and other charges including simple assault, driving with a suspended license and giving a false identification to police. He was released on unsecured bond pending a preliminary hearing.

Schaeffer said he tried to detain Quinn on a warrant after spotting him in the 300 block of the borough’s Beale Avenue on April 18.

“I told him to put his hands up and stand still,” Schaeffer said.

Quinn allegedly ran and remained at large until last week, when he was nabbed by the joint state-federal task force.

Schaeffer said police have added charges of felony flight to avoid prosecution and resisting arrest against Quinn.

On Tuesday, Quinn waived the eight Vandergrift charges against him to Westmoreland County Court.
