The Pennsylvania Game Commission tracked two bears Tuesday, one in Arnold and a second one in Pittsburgh’s Highland Park neighborhood.
Anthony R. Sawl snapped photos of a black bear sauntering along Alcoa Drive in a dense residential area. One of the photos shows the bear walking along a garden sidewalk, in another the bear is near a large raft.
The animal looks to be a young bear likely pushed out by his mother as she prepares to breed again. Typically, bears found in suburban areas this time of year are wandering the area trying to find a suitable, heavily wooded area to live.
But they get lost along the way, according to the Pennsylvania Game Commission.
Meanwhile, three game wardens converged in Highland Park on Tuesday afternoon to tranquilize a black bear that had been sleeping in a backyard in another dense residential area.
The animal is not believed to be the bear seen in Arnold, said Douglas Bergman, a game warden.
