Washington Township received eight bids from companies interested in paving sections of six roads, with the two lowest prices coming in under $240,000.

Township officials opened the bids for this year’s planned paving work on Monday.

Supervisor Joseph Olszewski said supervisors could award a contract Thursday.

Tresco Paving Corp. of Export appeared to be the lowest bidder, submitting a bid of slightly under $230,000 for the main contract and $5,000 for an alternate contract to pave Larimer Trail for a total of a little more than $234,000 .

Derry Construction Co. of Derry submitted the second-lowest bid, amounting to just over $233,000 for the main contract and $4,250 for the alternate contract for a total of about $237,000.

Roads included in the main contract are 2,500 feet of Pleasant View Drive; two sections of George Road that are 4,500 feet and 1,100 feet long, respectively; 1,900 feet of Evans Road and the same for Utopia Road; and 300 feet of Kunkle Park.

Officials are considering paving two short sections of Larimer Trail. Supervisors could choose to cut Larimer Trail if they feel the cost is too high, or they could move to reject all the bids and rebid the project.

None of the other bids for the main contract came in under about $257,000. Two of those bids came in at $311,000 and the highest totaled $357,000.

Beyond the paving work, supervisors are scheduled to open bids Thursday for the 2020 road sealcoating project, a less expensive option to paving that uses oil and crushed stone or gravel.

Olszewski said the sealcoating work could be done on 14 roads and 11.5 miles of roadway.
