A water main break in Lower Burrell on Wednesday morning left some without water.

Water was restored just before noon.

“We have a leak on a 12-inch main line on a right of way in Lower Burrell,” said Ed Saliba Jr., general manager of the New Kensington Municipal Authority. “The crew was in the process of shutting it down. It has to be shut slowly.

“Once it is shut, the system will regain pressure.”

Burrell School District was impacted by the water break, said Superintendent Shannon Wagner. Charles A. Huston Middle School students were moved to the high school to complete the day there, she said, because the middle school did not have water.

Burrell High School had low water pressure, Wagner said. Bon Air Elementary School was not affected.

“We’ve communicated with families via phone system and a message system through apps,” Wagner said.
