Southbound traffic on Route 28 will be restricted to a single lane between the Highland Park Bridge and the Etna/Butler interchange over the weekend.

The restriction will be in place from 7 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday – though it will be lifted two hours before the 7:30 p.m. start of Saturday’s Steelers preseason game at Heinz Field. Once the game starts, the restriction will be put back in place.

Crews will be repairing the shoulder along the highway. The work is part of a larger, $11.5 million project to improve Route 28 between the Millvale interchange in Shaler and the Highland Park Bridge/Aspinwall interchange in Sharpsburg and O’Hara. In addition to milling and repaving the highway, work will include concrete patching, bridge repairs and improvements to signs, pavement markings, guardrails and drainage.
