The West Deer Parks & Recreation Board and Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission will hold their annual family fishing event this month.

Families can come out and fish from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. May 31 at Deer Lakes Park.

Children will learn basic fishing skills such as baiting a hook, casting, removing their catch from their line and knot tying, among other things. Everything is provided, including poles, reels, and bait and no license is required.

Only children ages 5 years to 12 years old can participate. Children must be accompanied by an adult and adults must bring a child.

Preregistration is required with a $5 deposit that will be returned at the event. Space is limited and organizers are asking residents to register as soon as possible by calling 724-265-1100, ext. 303.

A light snack will be provided and prizes will be awarded.
