The number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in Westmoreland County rose to 11 on Tuesday, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

That’s an increase from eight confirmed cases on Monday that were reported by Westmoreland County officials.

The three additional cases come as Pennsylvania recorded 207 new cases in one day, the biggest daily increase since the first case in the state was identified March 6, according to state health officials. The new cases brought the statewide total to 851.

Other counties in the region, including Armstrong and Somerset, each saw their first cases confirmed on Tuesday.

More than 8,600 coronavirus tests in Pennsylvania have produced negative results.

Allegheny County has 58 confirmed cases and two deaths, according to officials.

Westmoreland County officials have expressed frustration that specific information about the cases is not being disseminated by the state Health Department. That information could help alert emergency responders to a potential hot spot and predict where shortages might soon exist in personal protection equipment.

Among the first cases reported in Westmoreland County were the illnesses of a Hempfield couple who recently returned from a cruise.
