A woman and two elementary-age children were taken to a hospital for treatment after a car and a minivan collided head-on Friday in Brackenridge, police said.

It’s unclear if the other driver was also taken for treatment of his injuries.

The wreck happened about 1 p.m. on Freeport Road near Sycamore Street.

An unidentified man was driving toward Tarentum while the woman was driving in the opposite direction toward Harrison.

Reached at the scene a short time later, a Brackenridge officer said he was on his way to the hospital to interview the woman. He had not received information on either driver or the children, who were taken by ambulance ambulance.

Attempts to reach police later were unsuccessful.

Neighbors said they saw firefighters and police work to free the man out of his heavily damaged car.

The vehicles showed extensive driver-side damage. The minivan wound up in a resident’s front yard. Its front wheel and axle were snapped off.

Police continue to investigate.
