Work on Millerstown Road slide repair to resume Wednesday
Work to repair a slide on Millerstown Road in Fawn is scheduled to resume on Wednesday.
Work on the slide had started Feb. 24, with the expectation of being finished in mid-April. The project was shut down on March 17 in compliance with Gov. Tom Wolf’s order due to the covid-19 crisis, PennDOT spokesman Steve Cowan said.
While normal highway and bridge construction projects are paused to slow the spread of covid-19, the slide repair is considered part of critical work that is continuing to address safety needs and eliminate restrictions that could affect the movement of life-sustaining goods and services, Cowan said.
Weather permitting, work will resume at 7 a.m. Wednesday. A new completion date has not been set.
“They are just starting the project back up and have yet to develop the schedule,” Cowan said. “Additionally, with the new safety protocols the contractor has to adhere to, we don’t know yet how that will impact production.”
The slide happened on June 26, 2018. About 1,000 vehicles use the road daily, according to PennDOT.
Millerstown has been closed between Callen Lane and Bull Creek Road since the project started. Traffic will continue to be detoured.
The posted detour from east of the slide:
• From Millerstown Road, turn onto Bull Creek Road;
• Turn right onto Route 908 Extension;
• Turn right onto Bakerstown Road;
• Turn right onto Millerstown.
The detour from west of the slide is the same in the opposite direction.
Work also includes paving, drainage repairs, guardrail updates, and pavement markings.
Allison Park Contractors is the prime contractor on the $1.2 million project.
