At least six fire companies responded to a garage fire Tuesday, Sept. 10 in Oakmont.

Oakmont firefighter Steven Marsh said the call came in at 11:44 a.m.

Joey Flanick, Oakmont’s fire captain, said four of his men were able to reach the scene in about a minute and established a water flow within three minutes of arrival.

“We had four guys go out the door within seconds of the dispatch,” Marsh said. “Then probably another four to five met us here and four to five met us throughout.”

The fire was able to be contained to the stand-alone garage structure on Hickory Way between Ninth and Eighth streets. Marsh said it took about 20 minutes to extinguish the fire. Despite being two streets away from Tenth Street Elementary School, the school was not affected by the situation.

There is no word on what caused the fire. The Allegheny County fire marshal was on the scene and is investigating. Nobody was hurt.
