Volunteers sought for Marshall steering committee
Volunteers are needed to help guide growth and development in Marshall Township during the next 10 years.
The township is asking residents to join a Land Development Ordinance Update Steering Committee that will focus on land development ordinances in their neighborhoods, according to township Manager Julie Bastianini.
Letters of interest are being accepted until Dec. 5.
“We still need steering committee volunteers for the zoning/subdivision and land development ordinance update. We are looking for a broad range of volunteers and are encouraging all to apply,” Bastianini said.
Applicants should submit a letter of interest to introduce themselves, provide any related experience and explain why they would like to be on the committee. Applicants don’t have to have background related to land development, as Marshall is looking for a varied group of individuals, according to Bastianini.
“Applicants are to explain any particular experience or knowledge of the land development process in their letter of interest, but it’s not required,” Bastianini said.
The steering committee members will attend evening meetings throughout an 18- to 24-month update process. Bastianini anticipates these meetings to begin early 2023.
They’ll be directing and providing input to an outside consultant, assisting with public input and feedback and reviewing draft ordinances.
The committee will include two township supervisors, three planning commission members, township residents and representatives of the township’s development community.
The township is updating its zoning ordinances, subdivision and land development ordinances, and grading ordinances. The stormwater management ordinances also are being reviewed.
These are some of the first steps in Marshall’s new Implementable Comprehensive Plan, which was adopted by the township supervisors in September. The plan will shape the community over the next 10 years.
“The plan was the result of 18 months of extensive public outreach and participation to map the vision for the future of Marshall Township. Led by an engaged and responsive steering committee, the plan will be an excellent guide to reach success in the four key implementation areas,” Bastianini said.
Letters of interest for the steering committee should be sent to Nicole Hanson, planning director for Marshall Township, 525 Pleasant Hill Road, Wexford, PA 15090. Or email nhanson@twp.marshall.pa.us.
