Waste collection scheduled in Oakmont

Noble Environmental is having a drive-through e-waste and household hazardous waste collection event on July 30 at 731 Second St. in Oakmont.

Appointments are being scheduled between 9:25 a.m. to 12:50 p.m. at nobleenviro.com/e-waste-and-hhw.

Televisions, computers, printers, scanners, copiers, air-conditioning units, dehumidifiers, small household appliances, other electronics, paints, thinners, oils, cleaning products, pesticides, garden products, propane cylinders and bulbs are among the items being recycled. Fees will apply.

Prohibited items include smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, ammunition, explosives, tires, compressed gas cylinders, large appliances, medical waste, elemental mercury , mercury-containing devices and PCB-contaminated items.

Participants must remain in their vehicles at all times. Credit cards will be the only form of payment accepted.

Family fun night

A free family fun night is scheduled from 6 to 9 p.m. July 15 at Penn Hills Alliance Church, 7605 Saltsburg Road.

Regency Park garage sale

Plum’s Regency Park neighborhood will hold its sixth annual garage/yard sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 16.

Oakmont library’s Wise With Words

Oakmont Carnegie Library offers Wise With Words from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesdays through July 27 at 700 Allegheny River Blvd.

It is a free program for children in third through fifth grades to help make reading and writing more interesting.

Youngsters can select their own free books. All reading levels are welcome.

The program is limited to 10 students per session, and registration is required. Call Nia Pierre at 412-828-9532 for more information.

Stroke support group meets

Plum Community Center’s stroke support group meets the first and third Thursdays from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the center, 499 Center New Texas Road.

Jeff Pope is the group coordinator. Experts say social activities, trips and keeping active are some of the best rehabilitation techniques.

Line dancing classes at Plum Community Center

Whether you want to brush up on your line-dancing skills or you just want to give it a try, classes are scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursdays at Plum Community Center, 499 Center New Texas Road.

Beyond country, the genre of music most often associated with line dancing, other styles are featured.

Sewer projects in Plum

Plum Borough Municipal Authority announces a number of sanitary sewer reconstruction during the summer.

Anderson Avenue reconstruction is scheduled to begin in early July and will include sanitary sewer replacement to remove extraneous water from the system. Vale Avenue reconstruction is anticipated during August with similar goals.

Motorists are asked to drive safely during construction. Both projects will be completed this year and will provide long-term benefits for all customers.
