A 6-inch waterline that broke early Wednesday on Banksville Road in Pittsburgh caused a section of the busy highway to freeze, a water company spokeswoman said.
About 10 customers were affected by the water line break, said Jill Greenwood, a Pennsylvania American Water spokeswoman. The water company placed salt along the icy section of the road, she said.
Pittsburgh Public Safety reported at 8:30 a.m. that several traffic crashes had happened in the area as a result of the “extremely icy conditions.” The water line broke near Coast Avenue, and a section of Banksville Road at Wenzell Road was closed.
Crews were expected to have the line repaired by noon, Greenwood said.
