Repairs to a 12-inch water main that burst in Elizabeth Borough early Friday morning have been completed and service has been restored for customers, according to Pennsylvania American Water.
The break in the line, which is about 70 years old, was reported at 2:45 a.m., causing flooding for about a dozen residential and commercial customers along North Second Avenue, according to Gary Lobaugh, a spokesman for the water company.
About 20 customers are without water while repairs are being made to the line. A contractor also has been dispatched to the borough to help clean up debris caused by the flooding, Lobaugh said.
A water tanker was set up to provide water to residents until the repairs are completed.
Elizabeth Borough Fire Chief Chad Rager told Tribune-Review news partners WPXI-TV that crews had to shut off multiple gas lines and electrical panels as the water rose. He said there were no injuries reported.
