PennDOT plans to close the northbound 62nd Street Bridge, Route 8, between Pittsburgh and Etna this weekend, the agency announced Tuesday.

The bridge is scheduled to be closed from 9 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday while crews are working. Traffic will be detoured.

The posted detour will be:

• From the 62nd Street Bridge, follow Butler Street toward Pittsburgh;

• Bear right onto Penn Avenue;

• Turn right onto 31st Street;

• Cross the 31st Street Bridge;

• Turn right onto the ramp to northbound Route 28;

• Follow Route 28 to Etna;

• Take the left-hand off-ramp to North 8 (Exit 5B) toward Butler.

Southbound traffic will not be affected this weekend.

The first of two closures of the 62nd Street Bridge in the southbound direction is tentatively scheduled for Sept. 19-22, according to PennDOT.

The work is part of a $9.14 million project in Pittsburgh, Etna and Shaler that started in August 2024. It is expected to be finished late this year.
