A Saltsburg man was hurt Saturday in a motorcycle crash in Bell, according to state police.

Arthur K. Gohn, 64, was driving a Harley-Davidson east on Route 380 near Lantz Road at 5 p.m. when troopers said he lost control around a bend. Police said the motorcycle hit a crack in the pavement and rode on an embankment for about 73 feet before Gohn was thrown from the bike.

He was taken by medical helicopter to AHN Forbes Hospital in Monroeville. Police believe he had serious injuries. Gohn was wearing a helmet.

In 2019, there were about 3,000 crashes involving a motorcycle statewide, according to PennDOT statistics. An injury was reported in the majority of those crashes and there were 175 fatalities. The number of motorcycle crashes dropped from 2017 to 2018 and then increased by 10% from 2018 to 2019.

In 2019, about half of motorcycle drivers and riders who were involved in crashes wore a helmet, according to PennDOT statistics.
