A patient being transported by ambulance sustained minor injuries Monday after a car collided with the vehicle in Unity, according to state police.
Troopers said a Mutual Aid ambulance was traveling on Route 981 with its emergency lights and sirens activated at 6:15 p.m. as it approached the intersection with Monastery Drive. The ambulance driver slowed down at the intersection and continued through after it was determined to be safe, police said.
A Toyota Camry driven by a Latrobe man that had been waiting at a red light traveled into the intersection when the light changed to green and collided with the ambulance, police said. Neither driver was hurt.
The patient was taken to Excela Health Latrobe Hospital for treatment of minor injuries sustained in the crash as well as a prior medical episode, police said. The Toyota driver was cited for two summary traffic violations, according to online court records.
State law requires drivers to pull over and stop, giving the right of way to an emergency vehicle with its lights and sirens activated.
