A woman was airlifted to a hospital Thursday following a crash in Unity, according to a Westmoreland 911 dispatcher.

Firefighters were called to the 7:30 a.m. crash after a vehicle collided with a tree and reportedly caught fire near the intersection of Marguerite and Anna Goodman roads, the dispatcher said. The woman was found unresponsive on the ground.

Rob Goodman, who lives at 188 Marguerite Road, said he looked outside after his home was jolted by the crash about 50 yards away.

“I thought a tree had fallen on my house. She was ejected from the vehicle lying on the side of the road and then the vehicle caught fire,” Goodman said. “She was in bad shape. I thought the whole woods was going to catch on fire.”

Goodman said the curvy stretch, just outside of the village of Pleasant Unity, has a lot of accidents.

“People fly through here all the time,” Goodman said.

Pleasant Unity fire officials deferred information on the accident to state troopers. A report on the accident was not yet available from state police in Greensburg.
