A man was taken by ambulance to Forbes Hospital in Monroeville after his motorcycle crashed Saturday morning on the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Donegal Township, according to responding firefighters.

Josh Umbaugh, assistant chief with the Chestnut Ridge Fire Department, said the man suffered “road rash” scrapes in the wreck reported at about 9 a.m. It happened in in the westbound lanes near milepost 97, between the Somerset and Donegal exits.

The man told firefighters he hit an asphalt seal while changing lanes and the motorcycle tipped on its side, according to Umbaugh.

An initial report that a truck was involved in the wreck was unfounded, Umbaugh said.

Traffic was temporarily slowed but continued to flow on the turnpike.
