South Pennsylvania Ave. in Greensburg on Monday, March 23, 2020. The streets of downtown Greensburg were free of pedestrians and motor vehicle traffic as a result of Gov. Tom Wolf ordering all non-life-sustaining businessesʴo close.

The Westmoreland County coronavirus death toll stands at 27, according to the coroner.

A woman’s death was added to a total that is being provided by Coroner Ken Bacha, who said the majority of the county’s deaths are tied to nursing and personal care homes. He is being notified of virus-related deaths sooner than the state Department of Health, which on Thursday reported 17 deaths.

Deaths related to contagious diseases that could constitute a public health hazard are required by law to be reported to coroners in the county where the death occurred.

Fourteen men and 13 women between the ages of 61 and 109 have died from the virus, according to Bacha’s statistics. All were white.

The facilities connected to the deaths have not been publicly identified by the coroner or state health department, which is tracking cases around Pennsylvania.

State health officials reported 10 more cases of the virus in Westmoreland County on Friday, with the new cases coming between 12 a.m Thursday and 12 a.m. Friday.

Fayette County reported one more death for a total of three, along with 75 total cases. Somerset County reported two new cases for 22 total.
