A suspect is in custody in connection with the fatal shooting of a man in a busy Rostraver shopping plaza Saturday night, although investigators remain tight-lipped about the case.

Authorities believe the shooting was an isolated, targeted attack on the male victim, according to the Westmoreland County District Attorney’s Office.

The male victim was shot about 7:20 p.m. in the plaza, which is home to a Lowe’s, Walmart, restaurants, a hotel and other retail shops. The victim’s identity has not been released.

A male suspect is being held in the Westmoreland County Prison in Hempfield. His identity also has not been released. The arrest was filed under seal because the investigation is ongoing, according to First Assistant District Attorney Chuck Washburn.

The suspect was arrested Sunday night after a warrant was signed and sealed by Westmoreland County Common Pleas Judge Christopher Feliciani. Court papers were filed Monday at the district judge’s office in Monessen. Washburn could not say whether the suspect had been arraigned.

He would not confirm the suspect’s charges or say whether the man who is jailed is charged with criminal homicide.

“We made an arrest related to the homicide,” Washburn said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Rostraver police at 724-929-8811.
