Westmoreland County’s drug court participants will receive a kit with a life-saving dose of naloxone as part of a grant received Monday.

Tim Phillips, executive director of the county’s Drug Overdose Task Force, said the county received 65 doses of the drug as part of program from the pharmaceutical company Kaleo, which is a generic provider of the medication that can reverse the effects of opioid overdoses.

“This is a further attempt to keep our drug court participants and their families safe, and active in their process of recovery. Kaleo auto-injectors have been proven to be easy to use — no fuss, no muss — to keep people alive until emergency responders are on scene and treatment can be initiated,” Phillips said.

Drug court participants are expected to receive the kits in the next month.
