Two men are being held in the Westmoreland County Prison after Jeannette police said they were found Friday with a stolen gun and marijuana in a parking lot along Magee Avenue.
Dwayne Chyrece Gripper of Jamaica, N.Y., and Jorrell Royale Stancil of East Stroudsburg are charged with weapons violations and drug possession. Gripper additionally is charged with providing false identification to police.
Both men are 30.
Police were called just before 10 p.m. to the parking lot for a report of several people in a vehicle parked there who were smoking marijuana, according to a police report. Authorities said they found five people in the vehicle with Stancil behind the wheel.
Stancil was unhappy that police were called and told officers they pulled over to look up the route back to New York City, according to the report. Underneath the driver’s seat, police reported finding a loaded pistol. It had been reported stolen to the Pocono Mountain Regional Police Department.
Inside the vehicle and a backpack, investigators found suspected marijuana and ammunition, according to the report. Police arrested Stancil and Gripper, a backseat passenger, in connection with the items. It was unclear why they were in the area.
Three women who were inside the vehicle, including one Jeannette woman, were searched and released, police said. No charges have been filed against them.
Gripper is being held without bond. He has a warrant for his arrest out of New York, according to police.
Stancil’s bail was set at $100,000. He was sentenced in January to two years in a probationary program on a weapons violation in Monroe County stemming from a 2019 incident, according to online court records.
Neither suspect had an attorney listed in online court records. Preliminary hearings are set for Thursday.
