Two Westmoreland County organizations are holding events to commemorate Drug Overdose Awareness Day on Thursday.

Both events will recognize those who have died from a drug overdose. Family members and friends are asked to submit the names of individuals who might be included in the ceremony.

The Westmoreland Drug and Alcohol Commission will have an event from noon to 2 p.m. at the Herman Mihalich Boat Launch in Monessen along the Monongahela River near the intersection of Rebecca and Monongahela streets. To submit a photo or name of a loved one, contact the agency at 724-243-2220.

Sage’s Army will gather at 6:30 p.m. at Penn-Trafford High School at 3381 Route 130, Harrison City. Loved ones will be remembered through a balloon release and signing of memorial bells. To have your loved one included, contact Sage’s Army’s helpline at 724-863-5433 or email ronda@sagesarmy.com.

Overdose Awareness Day was created to acknowledge without stigma the effects drug overdoses leave on a community.
