Two guards at the Westmoreland County Prison were hurt after authorities said they were attacked by a man being booked into the facility on terroristic threats charges filed by Greensburg police, according to court papers.

Javaun M.A. Miller, 26, of Greensburg was arrested Sunday after witnesses at an East Pittsburgh Street home requested he be removed because he was causing a disturbance and threatening violence around 12:30 a.m., Greensburg police said. While police were there, they said Miller didn’t listen to their commands, and officers were concerned he had a knife.

He was charged with terroristic threats, resisting arrest and related offenses.

After being cleared by Independence Health Westmoreland Hospital, police said Miller was taken to the Hempfield jail to be processed at 7:15 a.m.

Video surveillance from the jail seen by Westmoreland County detectives showed Miller resist staff while being patted down, according to court papers filed Friday. Miller punched one guard in the face three times and elbowed another.

One of the guards was seeking further medical attention for a possible broken hand, detectives said.

Miller was taken back to the hospital. A Friday court order indicated he had two black eyes.

He was arraigned Friday on charges of assault by prisoner and related offenses.

Bail was set at $50,000. He is being held on $10,000 bail in the terroristic threats case. An attorney was not listed in court records. Preliminary hearings are scheduled this month.
