Police: Sewickley Township man killed in South Huntingdon shootout, 1 hurt
A bonfire get-together in South Huntingdon on Saturday night turned into a shootout that killed a Sewickley Township man early Sunday, according to state police.
David J. Hoffman, 44, was fatally shot in the 200 block of Mendon Road around 3 a.m. Sunday. He had multiple gunshot wounds and an autopsy was conducted Sunday, according to the county coroner’s office.
Michael Scott Brown, 24, of Rostraver, was hurt, according to troopers. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
“One was deceased, and the other was treated for his injuries and flown to a Pittsburgh-area hospital,” said state police Lt. Dale Brown.
State police classified the death as a homicide, but no charges had been filed Monday.
Brown said a small bonfire party, attended by about a dozen people, was held earlier in the evening. A couple left the party, then returned separately after a domestic altercation.
“The female returned, and shortly thereafter, the male returned, and an argument with another gentleman at the party occurred,” Brown said.
Hoffman was armed with a shotgun. Brown also was armed, and shots were exchanged, the trooper said.
Neither man lived at the property where the party took place.
“Alcohol was involved,” Brown said. “I don’t know in what quantities, but we believe it was a contributing factor.”
State police continue to investigate.
