A head-on collision between a car and a pickup truck killed a Mt. Pleasant Township woman and severely injured another person Tuesday in East Huntingdon, according to the Westmoreland County Coroner’s Office and a fire official.

Brandalyn Pomaibo, 35, died at the scene of the Water Street crash reported at about 7:15 p.m. An autopsy was performed Wednesday and her death was ruled accidental by the Westmoreland County Coroner’s Office.

Crews freed the injured man from the car, a Ford Fusion, said Mt. Pleasant Fire Chief Jerry Lucia.

The man received initial treatment from an ambulance crew and was taken to Southmoreland High School, where a medical helicopter flew him to a Pittsburgh trauma center. Another man, who was driving the pickup, wasn’t injured, according to Lucia.

The car was “completely destroyed,” Lucia said.

Pomaibo’s grandmother, Donna Paulisick of Yukon, said she believes the injured man was a friend of her granddaughter, but she wasn’t sure of further details.

Pomaibo lost a 14-year-old daughter, Lacey, to leukemia in 2017. “It’s sad, a terrible scenario,” Paulisick said.

The crash happened between Scottdale and the village of Alverton, according to a Westmoreland County Public Safety supervisor. No information had been released by state police early Wednesday afternoon.

Water Street is a winding, two-lane stretch of road between Southmoreland Primary Center in Alverton and the Scottdale Borough line.

Firefighters from East Huntingdon, Scottdale and Everson also responded. Beatty-Rich Funeral Home in Madison was handling Pomaibo’s arrangements.
