2-vehicle crash in Mt. Pleasant involving school students sends 3 to hospitals
Three people were injured in a crash involving two vehicles Monday morning in Mt. Pleasant Borough.
The crash was reported at 7:15 a.m. at North Church Street and Park Avenue.
Mt. Pleasant Area School District Superintendent Tom Gabauer said he went to the scene of the accident with school district police Chief Jon Grabiak and high school Principal Robert Gumbita after learning the accident involved school students.
“Several senior friends gathered for a morning of photos for their last first day of school,” Gabauer said in an email to TribLive. “One of their cars, carrying two female senior students, was pulling out of the driveway when another vehicle came over the crest of the hill and struck their vehicle.”
Both students were released after evaluation at Independence Health Frick Hospital, Gabauer said.
A third person was flown from a landing zone at Frick to UPMC East hospital in Monroeville, according to a Westmoreland County 911 supervisor. More information on that person was not immediately available.
Firefighters from Norvelt assisted Mt. Pleasant fire units, clearing the scene by about 8:45 a.m.
