20 Westmoreland County employees among those attempting The Crucible hike from Seward to Ohiopyle

A group of 20 volunteers from Westmoreland County government will join family and friends on a 70-mile trek on the Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail to raise money for veterans.

The hikers plan to participate Sept. 13 through 15 in The Crucible, a three-day event on the trail that starts near Seward and ends in Ohiopyle. The group, calling themselves the Westmoreland County Crucible Crew, is hoping to raise $20,000 for Veterans Leadership Program of Western Pennsylvania.

The nonprofit organization provides housing, employment and other services to local veterans and their families.

To support the Westmoreland County government team, donations can be made by check to the Veterans Leadership Program with Westmoreland County Crucible Crew in the memo line. Checks can be mailed to the Veterans Leadership Program, attention Crucible Crew, 2934 Smallman St., Pittsburgh, Pa. 15201.
