3 more coronavirus cases, no new deaths reported in Westmoreland County

Health officials reported three new coronavirus cases in Westmoreland County on Thursday, a day before the county is set to ease restrictions and open up some shuttered parts of the economy.

The new cases bring the county’s running total to 422 since the first positive test on April 5. Thirty-two people have died in the county, 27 of whom were nursing home residents.

Across nine long-term care homes in the county, 134 residents have contracted covid-19 along with 34 employees.

Statewide, the death toll from the virus stands at 4,218 after 275 new deaths were reported. Of those, 44 were reported to the Department of Health on Wednesday and the others come from the department’s continued efforts to catch up with county-level data.

The 938 new cases reported brings the state’s running total to 59,636.
